New calls for the Norwich full or half marathon to start and end in city centre have now been snubbed, along with the council leaders stating that it would be very complicated and costly to organize.
City of Norwich Half Marathon was arranged here from the year 1985 to 1992. Later it went to Norfolk Showground in the year 1993 and this is also its present home. After another productive race at showground previous month the argument regarding whether a run could begin and end in the city centre say a daylight.
Norwich City Council Green group’s leader Claire Stephenson raised the issue at a very recent meeting that happened at the City Hall. She questioned that the council looked very carefully at the benefits and costs of working with race organizers and sponsors to begin a brand new Norwich city full or half marathon, beginning and ending in the city. She added t hat this might serve the city to achieve its Healthy City aims, as well as help businesses in the city centre.
City council’s Labour leader Brenda Arthur told that talks regarding such a race had taken place, but flagged because of the complexity and cost. He told that they are always happy to speak to the organizers who have the expertise and resources to put on top events of this nature and would be happy to offer advice.
